Hi. I have an 88 Pulsar with the 1.6 L and 5 speed transmission. I have blown 3 trannys so far. The trannys refuse to go into gear and even if the car is in neutral, it will not roll unless you push the clutch in...
My question, is what could be causing this? I have not replaced the pilot bushing, and i think that the circlip on the transaxle side of the cv shafts are missing. Would any of these cause my problems?
Thanks in advance,
Sam
I'm not too clear on what exactly is happening with your car. You have had three transaxles in the car, all with the same problem? Were any of these any good when you put them in? FWIW, there isn't any pilot bushing necessary on an RS5F31A transaxle. Even though clutch kits come with them, they aren't used. If the snap ring is missing off of one of your axles, you better find out where it went. It can be jamming your differential's spider gears or pieces of it could have gotten elsewhere in trans.

***The transmission is stuck in gear. Sounds like you may have a problem with your shift linkage...at the very least.

Like blown said, if that circlip is missing it may have caused some problems inside the tranny.

The clips were never on the CV shafts to begin with. Also, the trannys were all used but they went 10K with no problem. Then all of a sudden, with one tranny, I just left the light and it popped out of gear and the car ground to a halt. I had to have my passenger push the clutch pedal so I could push the car out of the intersection.
The trany before this, did the same thing but i was in 5th gear and far from home.
I usually use sentra transmissions in my car. I have used one from an 86 pulsar, a 87 sentra and one from an 88 pulsar. I have one from a 91 sentra that I am going to pop in.. I always ensure that I use new axle seals and that the gear boxes are full of vew fluid. I want to solve this problem, because if I can't trust the car, what use is it?
I'm wondering if the absence of the clips is causing the problem. The clips are there to retain the drive axles in their proper location. If they are shifting too far out of place it may cause too much stress on part of the tranny. I'm just guessing but I'd get some rebuild axles with the clips on before I put in another tranny or get some clips to put on the axles you have.
