Ok, so i just got a 1990 nissan sentra, bodys a bit bents up, needs a paint job, and the interior needs some work, but best of all.. i got it free.. The engine and tranny seems to be good, but however im overheating (well it needs to have all the fluids looked over, i just drove it home 5 miles and overheated) and smoke poors all over the highway from the exhaust (im a bug sprayer damn..) ..
Anyways.. it has 160,000 miles on it, and i found out tonight that its the base model, 1.6 liter 12 valve 4 speed engine. Anyone wanna tell me more about this car just from the info, and if this car is even worth trying to save.... and if so what could be done to "help" it.... Thanks in advance
head gasket going out ??... if its smoke and overheat... im sure its the headgasket.... if you inclined mechanicly, youll have no problem changing it yourself !!

Its a B12, and you have the GA16i engine. The GA16i is a solid reliable (if its maintained) engine that produces about 92HP (number varies slightly by with each source) and 96lb-ft of torque. It is a SOHC engine that has a throttle body injection system.
The car may be worthwhile to save, but you may want to consider an engine swap. Swaps to more larger 1.8 L (CA18's) and 2.0 L (SR20's) have been done before.
If you wanna keep your GA16i, id sugesst just doing a complete rebuild (if your mechanically inclined) just so that you cure all of the problems at once.
B12s are great little cars, so your is probably worth saving. If you decide not to save it, feel free to send me interior parts and some engine parts...
I just brought a 1990 Nissan Sentra 5 speed excellent interior inside, and outside body. It has 105, mile and runs great, it just started over heating, so I replaced the water pump and temp gauge. Theres no water in the oil or from the exhaust. Have any idea to what might be causing the problem?

Thermostat? Radiator? Does it cool it down if you run it with the heater on? More info is needed.

IGN timing could be off, amoung other things
Do you have a chiltons, or Haynes Manual?
There is a procedure for bleeding the coolant system, if you don't follow an air bubble will stay in front of the thermostat, and cause you to overheat.

thermostat and bleeding which is easy to do just take off the rad cap and run the car till the stat pops add fluid as needed and I always wait for the fans to kick on to be sure the engine is up to temp and have the heater on works well with B12s. Another thing to look at is old coolant and bad fan circuit.

There is a bleeder screw located on the driver side of the head that if you open then pour coolant into radiator air will come out, then coolant, then you replace bleeder screw and start the engine. My car when it starts to get warm will push coolant out the radiator if I don't have the cap on, so I pour it in and rev it up to push out extra bubbles, ans as soon as the coolant cosistantly stays at the same levil in the radiator I put the cap back on.

I didntk now about the bleeder screw..... Although, all I have is a FSM and I didnt look at that. My car isnt overheating yet.. I hope it doesnt. I did keep adding coolant and reving it up to get all the air bubbles out though.

they will burp out a little but I do mine that way and loose 1 cup or so of fluid and will stick in a quart or so, also you may not beable to work that bleeder screw if not my way is a good back up has worked on all cars I have used it on.
sounds to me like your out of turn signal fluid.
just kidding but as for the first post....the 2nd gen sentras are amazing the come with a stock solid center clutch. the cars will last forever if treated right. i abused mine so ive spent about 4000 just in repairs. its still my first car so ill make it last forever. the smoke from the exhaust happens when you gas it lol dont over rev. the car its self is amazing and ive never heard of anyone not loving the 90 sentras.
