creaking, ticking, noise when i turn?

wassup,
as you can see, i'm new the forum although i post a lot on zilvia.net and the nico forums because i have a 240sx. I'm new to this forum. However, I bought a 1987 2dr sentra a few months back (b12) and it runs good. 155,000 miles, fading paint, rust, small bumper to bumper accident but it runs and has NEVER died on me yet. I bought it for $450 too and I love the car. The only problem that i have that I have not fixed is a ticking noise I get when I turn. I don't have to be going too fast but when I turn in motion, a ticking noise occurs. I checked the cv boot and it seems to be in fairly good condition. Does anyone have any idea where the noise is coming from? I was recommended to change the halfshaft and cv boot but my teacher (ase certified master mechanic whose had over 30 years of car experience) doesn't think it's the cv boot. He used a stephascope type of instrument to check but he was stumped. Any idea what it could be? It sounds dangerous..especially when i turn. I also looked online and could it possibly be the wheel bearing? If anyone could help, it would be greatly appreciated. I will be keeping the car even though I was planning on selling it because I have a 1992 240sx with a sr20det which I love as well but I love the sentra too.

Thanks and Peace

Solomon

I'd bet the farm it's the outer CV joint, depends on which side the noise is...left or right. Does it do it more turning one way than the other?

The boot may appear fine but the needle bearings inside the joint are probably shot. These cars are relatively cheap to maintain, a new CV shaft should be around $45.

I would rule out the wheel bearing simply because it only happens when turning. A bad bearing would more than likely make noise all the time.
