How much is the factory tach off by?

anyone know how much the factory tach is off by in the 89 SE?
i am not going to use an autometer setup and would rather just use the "correction factor."
i plan on using an RPM activated shift light in the cockpit for redline/shift warning.
( i cant stand auxilary tachs into cars that have one stock!...pet peave i know)

You can adjust the tach. There is a very small rheostat (variable resistor) on the back of the tach. It should have 180 degrees of motion. If you have a multimeter with tach readout you can get actual rpm and adjust the instrument cluster tach from there. It's a total pain in the ass but once you get it set you shouldn't have to mess with it again.

FYI, by "on the back of the tach" I mean you have to disassemble the cluster and unscrew the tach from the housing, make an adjustment and put it back together. There are probably shortcuts but I leave that to you.
