Whisteling noise

Hi,
I have a 1989 Sentra coupe with about 185,000 miles on it. I bought it about 6 months ago. It runs well, but recently i noticed their has been a sort of whisteling sound from the right front wheel which stops when I apply the brakes.

I had it inspected and the brake pads are fine and the although the calipers are old they are in functioning condition. The mechanic did find that a ball joint went bad which I had fixed. The noise still persists. What could the problem be?

On a related matter when ever it rains the brakes seem to sqeak allot when applying the brakes. Is that normal?

Possibly a missing rattle clip? Or mabye even a bad wheel bearing

I'd guess a caliper that is not retracting enough causing a pad to drag a little bit or a wheel bearing.

Try greasing up the caliper slide pins first.

I had a similar problem with my '85 B11...was the rt side wheel bearing. What a royal pain in the ass. The first two times I had it replaced, it failed within a month. Something about the tolerance and the places I took it to not having the proper shims. Ended up pulling a steering knuckle off an '86. No problems since.
