Axle will not go into tranny HELP

i am having a big problem. i recenly bought a parts car with a 5 speed and swapped the 5 speed in (used to have 4 speed)

i have the tranny installed and driver side axle in but i cannot for the life of me get the passenger side axle in. it mgoes in enough for the splines to catch but needs to go in another cm or so to actually seal.

any help would be much appreciated as to why it will not go any further.

thanks in advanced

Have you pushed it in far enough for the external snap-ring to catch? Or is that clip stuck on the outside of the tranny housing? If you don't know what I'm talking about, you might want to double-check the other side and make sure it's actually in completely.

Check your engine mounts, if they are ok, check your tranny to block bolts. If all that checks out, pull out the problem axle and look at the circlip. It should be resting in the groove with no binding. if it's bent or sticking, get a new one.
Now, insert the axle into the tranny until the splines start to engage. Turn the axle sightly to the left and right by hand. Is it spinning with some drag? Yes=good. push the axle in as straight as you can and you should feel it "click". No click? Put the axle nut on a few turns and then tap the axle in by hitting the nut with a hammer. Not too hard........and keep the axle straight. Still not going in?,re-check the circlip,it's usually the problem.
