B12 Clutch change: Difficulty level?

I just got a complete clutch kit that I would like to install on my '90 Sentra. I've got a Haynes manual and it doesn't look too overly difficult but I wanted to get your guys opinions on this if you have done a clutch job before. I've done much of my own mechanical work on the following cars: '73 Satellite, '99 Formula, '01 Formula, '88 Mark VII, '02 Jetta 1.8T, and '03 Mustang GT. Other than the Jetta, I'm used to RWD and the "compactness" of the FWD looks like it would be hard to work on. How many of you guys have done your own clutchs? Do you have any tips?

If you have the tools, do it yourself. I should have, but I was too lazy and just payed a shop $250 to do it. Read the manual carfully, and you shouldn't have a problem. I heard the hardest part is adjusting the clutch after your done. BTW, check your flywheel for damage. If it's damaged, you're going to have problems and go though clutches like crazy.

If youve done any decent amount of work on vehichles (it sounds like you have) and the tools. GO FOR IT! Check with Napa or other parts stores about flywheel surfacing. shouldnt be but 20-30 bucks. But in the dozens of clutches Ive put in Ive only need to get one surfaced twice. BTW there are dozens of vehichles for the dozens of clutches....:-) Take your time and Lablel everything. The clutch adjustment isnt that difficult. Start with about halfway on the adjustment. With tranny in first, E-brake ON, Foot ON brake, push in the clutch FULLY and try to start (dont release clutch). If it fires up and you can shift through the gears your on the right track. If not Tighten the cable several turns and try again. Once it starts and shifts easily (without grinding) Adjust a turn at a time until happy with the release.
