I have a 90 sentra xe with a pretty good electrical mess. I just bought the car and it's in great condition, but when the guy i bought it off of took out the headunit he had in it, the windshield wipers wouldn't work. i think he did quite a number on it too, because i took it to a local guy who works for a dealer and he said he couldn't figure it out and that it was most likely something to do with a harness or the guy grounded out the system. there is a wire in the radio harness that is pretty fried and also the audio fuse would blow everytime you put a new fuse in it. For now i would just like to have wipers and i think i could hardwire in a HU if it came down to it. but i'd like to get the whole problem worked out.

As far as any major wiring, i don't have a clue what i'm doing. I would just like to know an estimate of what a problem like this might cost me at a shop or dealership. Thanks to anyone who can help me!

Stereo wiring.........The number one cause of electrical mayhem!(Sorry,Animal.)
Here's what likely happened. Your PO(previous owner)intalled an aftermarkedt HU and couldn't tell the difference between the constant and the hot.
The constant carries very little amperage and keeps the presets on when the car is shut off.
The hot supplies enough power to run the HU.
The PO mixed them up , or couldn't find one , so he used the hot side of the wiper motor for the HU.
Trace the wires off the original stereo harness and see where he spliced one in.
