My exhaust on my 90 b12 has rotted again. The pipe leading into the muffler is all rotted out and the rest of my exhaust isn't looking to well either. This is the 3rd time in 5 years that this has happened. The new england winters don't help with it much. My question, should I just go stock again and fix what needs to be fixed, or go with the pacesetter exhaust? I don't know how much longer I will need this car since I will be graduating from college in the spring and will probably look for a new car. Does the pacesetter give any performance increase at all? Also, it states that it is a bolt on, but I have heard that it does require some modification to install. Is this true and what needs to be done with it? At $110 the pacesetter exhaust doesn't seem like a bad deal at all, but what would you do if you were me?
I have a GA16i engine myself and have looked at replacing my exhaust but I have not done it just yet.
I too looked at the Pacesetter, it is a good deal money wise and it does give a performance gain.
I installed a pacesetter on my girlfriends Honda (trying to get her into a Nissan) and it did open up the bottom end a bit, however the noise did increase quite a bit over stock, which is good and bad, it has a very mellow bass tone to it, not loud and cracking like some.
However I did find the unit to be quite heavy compared to stock and it did not completely fit like a glove...but close.
One major drawback for me has been the fact that it comes with "two" three inch exhaust tips which to me is prepostorous on such a small car....total overkill.
I thought about switching to a single tip but to have one welded on and the old one removed just adds cost and it still may not sound as good as you would like it to.
Personally I am thinking of going into seperate pieces from flowmaster and placing a free flow cat in-line and have the whole system welded together.
I know that is not cheap either but I think it will be closer to the target.
My Sentra has 183,000 miles on it and hardly uses oil and has no leaks!! It's a great car that I may keep for a while yet and pay off my other bills before buying the "New" car.
i agree sentrab12, if u do decide to replace ur cat , go with a freeflow one. they cost about the same as an oem one but they dont bolt up. ur whole exhaust will be pretty much a one piece meaning everything would be welded together once this is done. u can just go to bobs in garner and he can take care of it . hey do u have pics of ur b12?
i had the exact same thing happen to me and i was faced with the same dilema as you. In the end i opted to go with a a larger pipe that stock (crush bent thoguh) and a bit better muffler. The entire thing cost me $167 Canadian. I went with this because it was econmoical. (and cuz im have little money available for the car). Not much in performance gains but the throttle response feels a bit better.
If you got the money go with a new cat and cat back system. It would be a nice thing to have!
Otherwise be ghetto like me!1
I do have a few pics laying around, some before and some after.....although it's not completely done yet.
I would like to put on a strut bar, so if you know a good, solid, easy to bolt on bar I'd appreciate the tip, would also like to replace my cracking dash...it didn't crack until this last summer, but I prefer to not have to look at it, when I switch out though I want to do the tach swap-in also as mine didn't have one stock.
I already put a stabilizer bar on the front from a sport coupe and used urethane bushings on it. Put Redline Synthetic in my gearbox.....what a difference!
I was close to buying a '94 SE-R about two weeks ago at Atlantic in Durham but he needed to much down on it and old sentras aren't worth anything on paper.
Shame to, it only had 107,000 on it and was in pretty good shape overall.
I'll try to get the pics up soon!!
red line really works eh. how much that set you back?

Stripped out the A/Cdoes your car run on Soy Sauce?
i had a few beers in me, sentrab12 but u can get an h/f cat that will bolt up. have u found everything that u wanted as far as exhaust or are u going with the pacesetter setup?
Go with a high-flow cat, 2" mandrel bent pipes and a good muffler. Probably will be cheaper in the end.

Most likely I will not go with the pacesetter set up as I'm not all that happy with it. I will be going with 2.25" mandrel bent tube, free flow cat and muffler, then weld the system.
I am unsure what muffler to go with, I like to save money on it but I don't want junk either.
I had to put a new alternator in this past weekend and it set back the fun money a little bit.
I have to get down to tires-n-parts in Raleigh to pick up a new Key parts catalog to page through to get a few ideas.....I am open to any ideas from anyone with past experience.
I won't be working on it until the spring just so I can get some warmer weather to work with and a little more daylight.
I had also thought of putting on a header and make it a complete replacement but I'm worried about the noise level, I don't want it to sound like a truck or annoy the neighbors to much since I leave at five in the morning for work.
The Redline synthetic cost about eight bucks a bottle but it's worth every cent.
I got it in Charlotte just down from the Lowe's speedway at BSR products.
Personally I would go with 2.0" piping unless your planning on forced induction or nitrous. 2.0" has been tried and it has been proven to provide the best results. Bigger piping could actually have a negative effect on performance.
Some good reading SentraStud, I guess I am going to switch over to two inch pipe instead and add in a sub muffler also.
Any idea who makes that sweeet muffler in the article.....the tip size is perfect and it has only one of 'em. Awesome polish job on the stainless....would look great on my 89 without gettin' all riced out.
i've heard that 2 1/4 might be good but i don't know of anybody that has done it.

Is there anyway to get a print out of that article, when I try to print it out I just get the pictures on the border and the header but not the text.!!!
Sorry about the repeat post, don't know how I did that one.
A quick update though....just did my tax return and it came out well, looks like I should be installing the new exhaust in a few weeks , decided to take the ten day return instead of next day and get a little more dough!
