1989 Nissan Sentra starts up fine, but will stall if left idling. If i give it gas it wont stall, and I can drive it but it has no power at all, and will stall if it goes up a hill. I have replace the air, fuel filter, spark plugs, and had the oil flushed but still didn't help. anyone know what the problem can be?
Well i just tried the car today, and it started up fine. Drove around a block and the car stalled, had to give it alot gas to get it going agian then i parked it. It has no power what so ever, i give it gas and it does nothing just slowly goes faster, and jerks alot too. This is in 20C weather. So it's not cold weather.
On a 92 Sentra, the fuel pump is in the Fuel Tank underneath the back seat. I don't know about 89 Sentra. I brought a new fuel pump cost me $300 canadian. so verify if fuel pump is the problem.
I could rev the engine on my sentra but it would stall right after I let the accelerator pedal go. Stalled in parking lot and stop light.
When you start the engine the you would hear the fuel pump in the back making some noise. When the fuel pump ages, you can bearly hear the noise.
I am not saying the fuel pump is your problem but it is something to look at.
If you do search on this board about Sentra's fuel pump. you'll get an idea.
All your plrblems could be caused by retarded Ignition timing, check that the base timing is set to 7 degrees BTDC, and the distributer to see if the adjuster bolts are tight.
If the timing is set properly you may want to check the fuel pressure (low fuel pressure can cause low power)
The stalling at idle and jerking also could be dirty AAC, FICD, and Idle up solenoids. You can find instructions here for cleaning them
Have you pulled any codes from the ECU?
