Tightening up th shifter

Is there any way to tighten up the shifter in an 83 Pulsar? I noticed even when in gear, the shifter has a bit of play side to side. My 62 Beetles shifter is more precise!

There is a rubber bushing at either end of the shift linkage that connects from the shifter stick (under the exhaust heat shield) to the transmission, that could be loose, and needing to be replaced. Other than that It would be a loose part inside the actual transmission.

Not sure how yours is exactly setup, but anyway...

I used to have a 1982 Datsun 210 that had a stick shift that wobbled around all over the place. Mine ended up being the bushings for the two bolts that hold the shifter in place underneath the dust boot, once these were replaced it felt like I had a brand new transmission.
