AIV hose blew out - exhaust leak - a heads up to all
Yesterday on the way to work noticed the car sounded like it had an exhaust leak, on the way home it sounded like the exhaust fell off, couldn't find any exhaust leaks but sounded like the leak was under the hood, towards the back side of the engine, finally discovered the rubber hose that goes from the bottom of the AIV to a metal hard line that runs to the exhaust manifold blew out.
Local dealer wanted $52
another dealer said $31.94
Big difference right?
online dealer was $23 + shipping about $32 shipped
anyone know of another source for this hose?
junkyards are pretty much out since the local junkyards pull the engines, and any hose I did find would be just as old as mine anyway
can't even think of anything to use to plug the hose until I can get the part, So I have to drive the gas guzzling Infiniti Q45 ( which is running like crap ) LOL
I have never heard of one of those blowing out.
Also, what made yours go bad?
Checked on one that I have sitting on a used motor in my shop,
and it "looks" ok.
Wouldn't a used one work?
The function of the AIV is only to bring fresh air into the exhaust.
shouldn't be much pressure there.
not sure why it blew out, it was fine last Saturday, ( no leak anyway), maybe I drive the car to hard who knows??
Used would work if I could find one, like I said the junk yards pull the engines before they put the cars out back and if the engines are good most junk yards here won't seperate any parts off of one, I know one junk yard that had a sentra with the engine in it, I got the grill from that car but that was months ago and I don't know if the car is still there, have to check. The one good thing is if I do find a used hose it's easy to get to and a used hose may last until I get a new one.
This hose brings exhaust from the exhaust manifold into the AIV not sure what it does after that.
just ordered a new hose from everythinginfiniti.com, $24, and a new cap and rotor since everyone says OEM is the best way to go. I got a junkyard here that is going to pull a used hose for me tomorrow so at least I'll be able to drive my car until the new hose arrives, the infiniti is nice but it's running like garbage and it sucks down fuel way to fast. No idea when the parts will arrive since NO dealers have this hose in stock anywhere in the US. Hopefully the hose was just old and there isn't another problem somewhere else that caused it to blow.
