Before I bought my car, the normal air intake system had been replaced with a POD filter. Now, I like the Pod filter, but i think it should be closer to the front of the engine bay cos there's like, a gap there and you can REALLY tell that it's just been tacked onto where it is currently. Here's a pic, tell me whether or not you think I should move it...
And here is where I think it should be, next to the big plastic pipe that used to be the intake...
All comments appreciated. Also, tips and hints on how to move it would also be goodlies.
Thanks, I thought it looked wrong where it was!!! Do you think I should clean the POD while I've got it off the car? I've had the car for about 3 years and I've never cleaned it. (I've only done about 1,000kms though - i'm yet to get my full license)
Those types of filters aren't really designed to be washed. I can recommend a K&N Filter that is re-usable and will work alot better than the one you are using now.

You could make a really decent intake for that motor with a little bit of planning and no special tools. First off, take ALL of the old intake parts off and pitch them. I would start by finding some kind of cheap Ebay air intake that looks like it has some bends you can work with. You could start out at your intake with a silicone adapter that will mate your intake with the end of your tubing. cut the tubing where you need to, and adjust the bends of the remaining tubing with couplers and hose clamps. This way you don't even need access to a welder, just a hacksaw. using a nice flat piece of metal or glass with sand paper wrapped over it is an easy way to smooth the cut ends of your tubing. with a little bit of work, you'd have something that would look great and definitely help your ride breath.
Maybe the best thing to do would be to clean the POD with an air compressor, that would certainly blow the dust out, and i wouldn't have to worry too much abuot it getting wet and exploding (well, maybe not exploding...
A local speed shop in Mansfield sold that stuff for 3-4 times the price. A lot of their couplers ran about $30-$40.
I just looked at some of the linked sites prices, guess they are cheap, Was thinking of them after reading another reply about using the couplers to make your own air intake, actually it was this thread, LOL
