Pulsar questions

I just got my wife a 1987 Nissan Pulsar. It is a very cool car and is in fairly good shape for the age.
It does have a few issues though. I am hoping to get some help trying to solve them. Nothing too big.
The first issue is that the Speedometer does not work at all. All other gages work fine. Can someone give me a place to start? Please keep in mind that I am not the best mechanic so if possible talk to me like I am 4.
The other issues are that I need a passenger side mirror, this one is gone. I also need the trim piece that goes right behind the drivers window. Can anyone help me with these parts or places to get them?
Thanks

Jim

There is a cable that goes from the back of your spedometer to the transmission that basically enables the speedometer to work. If this cable is broken on the inside, your speedometer or odometer would not work. If this is the case, you simply need to replace the cable. Unfortunately I do not know how to do this, maybe another member does.

Well that gives me a place to start. At least I know now that it is mechanical and not electrical. Can you still get the cable?

Thanks

Jim

You should be able to get a cable through your local nissan dealer. just about all parts still seem to be availible. Ebay is a great resource for cheap new and used parts.

Also try www.oem-surplus.com . This is a great source of new old stock Nissan inventory. The price is right, and those guys are very good to deal with. I have purchased several things from them.

if theres a pull a part yard near your area, id check out all b12 and kn13s to see if they still have good speedo cables. shouldnt cost more than $5.

i got my cable at the dealer and it wasnt terribly expensive.

only trick to the speedo cable installation:
be very gentle when u put the instrument cluster back in. dont jam it in if it doesnt fit exactly right, or u could easily break the speedo cable end like i did

Thanks

Thanks for all of the help. I have not had a chance to look at it yet. Most likely after the Holidays. I do know that the guy that sold it to me had a clutch put in. I am thinking that it may not be connected at the tranny or broken off there. I will post when I find out.
Thanks again

Jim
