SR20 B12 3 door!?!?!

hey guys, a friend of mine just bought (well her dad bought) a 1987 Nissan Sentra 2 door hatchback. The motor was blown to crap but luckily her dad is kind (rich!) enough to get it replaced.

I suggested that she look into and SR20 swap. The SR20 can be swapped in this car right? The early hatches were only FWD not 4WD right?

Those B12 hatchbacks [not talking about the sport coupes] were pretty cool. I used to have a gray '87. I don't know why they weren't more popular. I hardly ever see them, but there are plently of B12 sedans wherever I go. I wonder if those hatchbacks are any lighter than the sedans? Right Nick, they never had a 4WD hatch. Only the wagons were offered that way. Cheers.

I dont think the hatch is any lighter, they are probly about the same.

Anyway Im confused now. Whats the difference between the B12 Hatchback and the B12 wagon? Was one not available in Canada? (Not talking sport coupes either)

I also thought that the B12 Hatch/wagon was offered with 4wheel drive during the years that it was offered with a GA16i. Maybe Im thinkin Europe or something?

Oh, it's simple, the hatchback is a two door, and the wagon is a four door. Only the wagons were available with 4WD. The 4WD option was available in '87 and '88 [with the E16i], and in '89 with the GA16i. I keep an eye out for the 4WD wagons [I own two], and the GA powered '89's seem to be very far and few between. I would even guess that they might have been discontinued mid year. Has anyone ever seen a '90 B12 wagon [2WD or 4WD]? I never have.

Hello Charles, Sorry for the delayed reply. I do have a couple of pics of my '86 B11 Sentra. I'll email them to you, as I have not had any success trying to get them up on this forum. If you'd like to read about the technical details of my B11 race car, check out the this thread from B15sentra.net forums. It's at: http://www.b15sentra.net/forums/show...=B11+race+car. I am really glad that you have an interest in these early Sentras. Not too many of us do! By the way, I have recently been to your website, and really enjoyed reading your great technical articles, outlining the SR20DE installation in your B12. You are really talented, and I thank you for taking the time and effort to share your knowledge with the rest of us. I got a good tip from your article, where you described removing and adapting the pass side engine mount bracket [from the B13] to the B12 fenderwell. I will be doing the same shortly, as I am putting a '93 GA16DE in place of my GA16i, in my '89 4WD wagon.

What problem did you have? You won't be able to upload attachments, but using the IMG code will work.
