Got the waterpump done last september. Not even 20 000km later it's leaking again. They pressure tested it and it's leaking from the bottom of the pump (cant tell if its the gasket or the pump itself.. .but the pump is fairly cheap to replace). So looks like its gonna get done sometime next week. Shitty part is, I had brougth them the pump when they did it, so there's no warranty on it
Damnit way to put a damper on my day
edit: I got the pump changed when the car had 161 350km on it, it now had 171 600km on it.... 10k on a waterpump? That's bulls***. I called the deaelrship i worked at about it and they said they'd look into it for me thank god
Was it was a factory Nissan water pump or an cheap aftermarket unit?
aftermarket... but it has a 2 year, 48 000km warranty on it. Im getting the shop to pull it off and give it to me while they install one of theirs so it can be warrantied through them instead. Im going to be brining the pump back to the place I got it from and they said I can get my money back. Thankfully... I was just praying it wasnt going to be the pump again. Oh well
bah. i put 100k on my B11... i think i went through about 7 water pumps. i think the coolest was the one where the pulley flange fell off the shaft (i was filling the engine with coolant only minutes after strapping it back together).
*clang*
'why is my water pump pulley lying on the floor?'

7 pumps???? That's crazy. I would think that you're running your belts too tight. I try to put them on as loose as I can without slipping. Usually about 1" of deflection with about a 10-15lb push.
My buddy lost his whole crank pulley about a week after I helped him replace the water pump on his Suby. He used a crow bar to cinch it down reeeaaallly tight. I won the "I told ya so." argument.
that is hellarious alot of people do that they think the tighter the better but really it streches the belts faster and puts a huge side load on the bearings in the acc and can in some cases cause things to fall off.

actually, i'm really good with belts. i even have the little scale for measuring tension. thanks for playing, though.
it's commentary on the crappy quality of reman pumps.

Greetings from West Edmonton! I have used some remanufactured pumps, but down in the lower 50, Checker/Schuck's/Kragen is DEFINITELY the place to avoid for remanufactured parts. I generally go to NAPA or CarQuest. Costs more, but is worth it!
It could be a mildly corroded mounting surface on the block? Sometimes that could do it; Or the bolts coulda been not tightened enough, or the pump coulda been simply a piece of garbage. Gasket coulda been crappy? I always use a good gasket with RTV silicone (Used sparingly...a little goes a long way), making sure I scraped the puddin' off the block's water pump surface 'til it shines. No probs so far...best of luck!

Later, taters; Off to a better place. Catch me there!
might want to check and see if it's coming out the drain hole... might have a bad seal. got an inspection mirror? warm the car up, SHUT IT OFF, and see what you can see.

life is all about prep work the better you do the prep work in this case cleaning of the block where the water pump goes the better chance you have at agood quality/long lasting fix also if you clean up the work site it looks good for the customer a little trick in the auto industry if it is clean it is good most drivers know no better.
Well, they put in a brand new ( NOT remanufactured ) pump in there and its hella quiet compared to before. I brought the old crappy pump back and they gave me my money back so I guess that's nice. Now its really weird because I barely have to crank the car over to get it to start ( I crank it for around 1-2 seconds and it fires up right away ) which is REALLY nice except the first few times I grinded the starter a bit.
