Trust me, keep the 6.5's. Tryin to drill and put in 6x9 will be a pain in the arse!!! 6.5's are just as good as 6x9's. Besides, you should not really be upgrading the rear speakers too much. It is only for fill, you need to just worry about the front speakers. If you want to spend the money just go with front components. Forget about upgrading the rear speakers!!!
thanx for the info. now the next step...what are some good 6.5" speakers, not too expensive... And i have some 4" speakers in my front doors, would i have to go bigger size if i want it to be kind of loud? i was thinkin like 2-3 10's on trunk, and i want lil sound(alot of bass)..thanx
You can easily fit 6.5s in the door as long as they're not too deep. Eclipse makes some good-sounding shallow 6.5"s that aren't too spendy. If you want to go the component route, it will be difficult to fit anything in those doors, so you'll have to get more creative.
As for the back speakers, if you're absolutely stuck on having speakers back there (a waste, if you ask me, but that's JMO), what kind of price range are you looking at?
I swapped my 6x9's for 6.5's. SQ was improved with the 6.5's. Another reason to put 6.5's is that they mill mount in the factory speaker hole. Most 6x9's stick out.
hmm. ok,i will stick with 6.5" speakers in front doors and rear deck, but what about subs?? i want it to bang! i was thinkin 2 or 3 10" JL audios. what ya think. any body know about how much ill spend on 4-6.5's, an amp, and the subs??
You could spend anywhere from $200 to $20,000 or more depending on what you want. The question is how much do you want to spend?
JL subs are nice - their W3v2s are a good-sounding sub for their price range, and the W6s sound great. Also look into Eclipse, Xtant, and for less money, Alpine.
$600 would be really cutting corners if you want 2 10s. If you just need 1 10, you could do it, especially if you can build your own box. But $1000 is a better number. On a grand, I would get:
And for a grand, you're into a pretty decent setup that will sound great. If you need a prefab box, add $100 to the cost. Although if it were me, I'd rock just one 10 and spend more on the front soundstage - but that's just me.

not at all what I would go with....I had those kappas, DEFINATELY not worth the money. They also need to be amped to get anywhere close to their potential (which is exceptionally low for $150 I might add).
JL and Alpine are both overpriced as well, I can't even begin to describe how much better you can do for $180 a sub
Screw the dual 10 idea, it will get barely louder than a single 12, cost nearly twice as much, and will take up 1.5x the space. It sounds like you want a lot of bass, I would look into dual 12's or a single 15 if I were you. Some brands to check out are Elemental Designs, Adire Audio, Resonant Engineering, Image Dynamics, Stereo Integrity, and many more.
