looking for sub crossover with variable adj's?

Hello, I need a subwoofer crossover but I would like one that has variable freq. points instead of the few I've seen with 3 fixed freq's anyone know of any decent ones? Thanks

any decent amp will have a variable lowpass filter built into it, what else are you looking for?

That would be fine if I asked about a new amp but since I allready have 2 amps that I'm using I only need a crossover. My one amp, a 200 x 2 PPI ( which I consider a high end amp) doesn't have any crossovers built in at all probably cause it was made back in the 90's who knows, and my alpine 4 ch has low and high pass but I'm using that for my front speakers. Can't switch the 2 amps cause front speakers can't handle 200 watts. But thanks for the reply.

ah, yeah I think I remember reading some of the older PPIs didn't come with crossovers, but they are very nice amps. Other than using your deck's xovers or a nice EQ (which would be almost as much as a new amp), I really don't know. Partsexpress sells fmods that are highpass or lowpass filters (whichever one you get), but they're set at a certain frequency so I don't think that's what you would want.

Yes, that's the one bad thing about older amps like my PPI, I bought it back around 1990 paid like $625 for it ( 10% extra for a white one LOL) but it's actually 2 amps in one chassis so it can't be bridged either but it's 200w x 2 and it's clean. I had PPI update it a while back so it's just like new.
I saw the f-mods but for that price I can get an adjustable crossover, right now I'm looking at a profile QX8 that I can get for about $24 , I like the Kicker O3KX2 also it has the variable freq's can get one for about $64. My head unit is also a few years old ( sony XRU-770) no crossover built in it either. One of these days I'll have to update some equipment but for now everything works justs fine.

Many serious competition level amps made a few years back did not have x-overs built into them because it was generally assumed if you were spending top dollar for their amps, you would already have or be adding the necessary processors (x-overs, eq's, etc...) to make it sound proper. Most amp manufacturers today put a lot in a single package for ease of installation and space savings, not necessarily for ultimate sound quality.

I personally like either the Audio Control x-overs or the US Amps crossovers. Both will have variable adjustments and both will have a specific model that will suit your set-up just fine. There are a few others out there, but these are my two favorites.

Wow! I’ll bet that PPI amp sounds awesome. I love amps without x-overs, they just sound better for some reason.

I agree with Wicked, Audio control is the name brand cross-over you want. Honestly though, cross-overs really aren’t that complicated to manufacture. Even some off brand no name company may have a decent 2-way cross-over.

What I would do personally is invest in a decent quality 3-way x-over. Then hook your Alpine to the front & rear outputs and the PPI to the Sub output.
Take advantage and fine-tune your whole system not just the Sub amp.
That’s what I’d do anyway.

Stopped at the local car audio store on the way home from work to see what he had, he's expensive on some crossovers, ex. kicker 2 way I can get for $67 he gets $ 95, anyway I asked what he had that was inexpensive and he showed me one made by legacy??? don't know who makes them but it was a 3 way with a wired sub control,, chrome too ! LOL for $65 don't know if legacy is any good or not. Aren't they made by pyramid? Us amps is way out of my price range and I'm sure audio control would be too. So, I'll probably order the 2 way kicker x-over unless I find something better for less, thanks

Yo, MTX makes a decent 3-way or 4-way cross-over you can find for under 50 bux.

I don't think you're trying very hard... j/k

If your on a dead line and need the x-over now than just buy what you can afford, but honestly I found tons on e-bay.

MTX - used it- very nice and very cost effective

Audio Control

Even this crappy Profile x-over would do the trick. I've used the smaller version of this and got good results.

Take some time and look around. See what you can find for under $50.

Thanks for all the links to E-Bay I had looked on E-bay a few times but when I did the searches I would only get like 5 results and nothing like what you found, so I searched off one of your links and found quite a bit, I'm going to prob wait until after x-mas since the paycheck I got from work on friday is the last one until the day after x-mas and will need that for x-mas shopping. Audio control really makes nice stuff but I really don't want to spend that much, when I put the system in my 90 sentra I just did it so I could have some decent sound I don't plan on having this car as my perm. vehicle for long I just got rid of my 2001 dakota and am saving up to get either another nissan hardbody 4x4 ( I used to own an 87) or a toyota 4x4 pickup. So the system in the car isn't for show, it may not be pretty but it's all decent equipment and it works, only problem is my box with the 2 12's is a fullrange box and being that the tweeters fire into the rear seat you can't hear them and the bass is alittle muddy sounding cause their's no crossover. I thought of taking the tweeters out of the box. sealing the holes and mounting them in the rear deck but don't want to go thru all that. The front speakers provide enough fill for the whole car anyway.
