....I just received my AudioBahn subs today. SSSWWWEEEET
Anyway, does anyone know what needs to be done differently with respect to wiring and internal enclosure volume when installing the subs with the baskets out? The baskets are chrome and it would be a shame not to be able to show them off.
Make sure you account for the volume of air that the basket would normally take up.
Say a normal 20x20x20 enclosure has a volume of 4.63ft^3. Normally you would then subtract the volume of air that the sub itself displaces to give the final internal volume. In this case you will be mounting it inverted so you will not subtract the volume of air that the sub displaces. So if you find plans for that sub that say it is a 1.5ft^3 enclosure, keep in mind that would be after displacement if you had it mounted normally, so you will actually have to make the box smaller than that to get your 1.5ft^3....understand? It's hard to put into words.
Basically find out what volume that sub needs to sound good, then build a box with that internal volume and don't worry about the displacement of the sub. Don't follow any plans you find online.
Yeah alot of those plans are for outfacing subs. Ever consider getting one of those boxes that are set up to have one sub basket out, and the other to be facing normally. Just for reference, a company named Dual(they're new) makes it, check it out at best buy
if you have a single sub then you can wire it the same and it will be fine, if you have dual and you're doing 1 in and 1 out then you need to reverse the polarity on one of them.
Keep in mind, if you wire it normally when it's backwards the sub will be 180* out of phase. Normally you can't hear this, but if it bugs you you can reverse the polarity (hook + on amp to - on sub) and it will play normally.
