Sealed VS. Ported Sub Enclosures

Are sealed sub enclosures better than ported or not?

I prefer ported boxes to sealed anyday. Ported can sound as good as sealed if built right, but they do require more space than a sealed box. They are also more difficult to build right.

Also depends on the speaker though. Some manufacturer's do not reccomend their subs in a sealed box. Kicker's L5's are good subs, but in a sealed box you don't get their full potential. A buddy of mine swapped from his sealed box for 2 L5's to a ported one tuned low and it's a night and day difference. The ported box' output is much greater, and it still sounds good.

it depends on how you like your bass. sealed boxes are for tighter bass (rock, etc.) ported and bandpass are for loose bass (rap, etc).
