Testing an amplifiers true wattage?

How would I go about testing an amplifiers true outputed wattage?

Is there a way to do this using a multimeter?

You would need a stable power supply (unless it's a small amp the car's electrical system wouldn't cut it), as well as an oscilloscope and a dummy load.

Well the biggest power supply I have other than my car is a Motorola 40 amp 12V supply. So that doesn't cut it as much as my car does..

Nevermind!

Even with a sheet it is impossible to know under what circumstances the numbers were acheived. For instance, an amp rated for a single channel @ 4 ohms might make, say, 300 watts into a reactive load with only .1% THD but what they might not tell you is that they cooled it in a freezer to -50 degrees. You have to find a manufacturer that is trustworthy and generally that is only found with upper echelon companies.
