Hi,

I am looking into buying a 2001 maxima, with 81K miles.
I currently own a 97 Audi A4.

I love my Audi, great car. However, timing belt and water pump will cost around $600, and I need to replace two control arms, which cost around $250. It's a headache!

I don't have much experience with Nissan's, and I was wondering if you guys can let me know what's the most common breakdowns that could happen at that mileage, like, when do I need to change the timing belt, or water pump? Or any problems, from your experience, that might occur.

Issues are pretty similiar, since mechanically they're almost identical.

VQ's use a timing chain, so no need to replace that. I think coilpacks and MAF's are pretty solid...

I think you'll find Japanese cars are entirely different animals. Change oil, give them a little routine maintenance and they run forever. My 1990 Maxima SE went 187K miles and would have kept going, but was stolen.

If auto trans, see if the previous owner ever flushed the system and changed the fluid.
