just got me one

just got me a 96 max gle 5sp. only 88k miles. i think i got a good buy, w/ 5700$ out the door at a dealership in chicago suburbs. the steering is much looser than what im used to. whenever i go over a series of bumps in the road the car seems like it is just gonna fly off in any direction. is this something maximas normaly do, or is it just my ride? wat can i do to fix this?
i figure a rear sway bar and lowering springs would help with this. any other suggestions?

is there anything common problems that nearly maxima has? ever car has its weakness, what is the max's? already the check engine light has come on, it was the o2 sensor and the o2 knock sensor. i just bought it one tues night and it came on thursday night. i was pissed, and the dealer said he'd split the cost w/ me.

i love this ride tho. the trans is awsome. i had me a prelude, and, well... SCREW HONDA. they screwed me.

good deal, i bought a 5speed myself, 95 with every known option for $3900 with 120k miles, dont change the knock sensor, first change the O2 sensor and reset the light, the knock sensor could should go away because the o2 genreally will trip the knock sensor. www.oxygensensors.com the company recommends the walker brand, itll take 15 minutes to change including splicing, itll run about $50. the weakness fo the maxima is its handling, the rearsway bar would correct the sloppiness when going over a series of bumps like you said, or lowering it, but the RSB should alleviate the problem of bouncing sid eto side

check out www.maxima.org pretty much the bible of maximas
or maximaracing.org

The KS won't trip the light, so after you do the O2 and drive around for awhile, check the codes even if the light's not on. If the KS is bad, you will fall in love with the car all over again after fixing it. Here's how to check the codes yourself: http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html. Have fun, the max in 5spd is an absolute blast to drive. Oh yeah, if you do have to change the KS here's how (the dealer will try to charge you like $500 because they take the manifold off to do it): http://www.skippynet.com/maxima/knocksensor.htm, and http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/507.

The Maximas seem to like to follow all the bumps in the road. I get the same thing even on my stocks. Usually it's worse with larger wheels but I'm sure it's just a Maxima trait. You could always get it aligned to make sure your alignment isn't off but I'd take it easy. Just don't mow over big potholes and such
