Need Help

hey every one whats up,
i just signned up on these forums cause it seems like every one here knows what they are talking about. Well i need help in buying this nissan maxima. My parents own a nissan sentra and now it has like almost 200k miles on it but still running good for a family car. Well my question is that i got 4000$ and i saw this poster on the website a guy selling 1996 maxima gxe for 2100$. Well the price is low cause the mileage is 120k. Now i am a noob when it comes to cars and details. Thats why we have u guys to answer our nublet question. My question is that is it worth buying a maxima with 120k miles. I have a budget of 4000$. I talked to the guy and he said the car is like in perfect condition and it also has 17". well as far as the speed matters v6 engine is good enought for me so se of gxe dosent matter for me. One more questions is that is really possible that a person will sell a 1996 with every thing pefect for 2100$. And also do nissans also last long like hondas and totyotas like uptill 200k?. if you guys can asnwer my question that will really help me a lot thanks. I do apologize for my noob question i am electrical eng major student and noob in cars

The engine would definitely last 200k and beyond depending on how well taken care of the car is.

I'm not too sure on the price. Most earlier 4th gens that I have seen go for $4k and up. I think there may be more things wrong than he's willing to tell you.

If you go check it out make sure you check both cv axles in the front...making sure the cv boots aren't cracked or leaking oil. Take the car for a drive. Turn down the radio and listen for weird suspension sounds when going over bumps. Make sure the shifts are smooth if auto...

These are all typical things you should do when buying any car...there really aren't any 'definite' things to check for on Maximas. If it is a 5spd then make sure everything works...no grinding noises...no clunking into/out of gear.

Hope this helps somewhat...just to recap though I'd be kind of weary of the price. It seems a little low.

Hey thanks a lot for your lightening fast reply Mreous. I appreciate it. I will make sure that all that things you have mentioned are a.ok . And for test drive i will definbately take someone with me who know about cars. One of my freinds is a mech engg so he has pretty idea about cars. As for the price thats what i thought kind of low but me be his parents are making put load of money or something. But if every thing is alright then its not a bad deal after all :0
