Unhappy Help! I Need Immediate Advice About My Maxima

I joined this forum because I have a dilemma. I own a 1997 Nissan Maxima that I love. I have taken very good care of it and have kept all of the scheduled maintenance appointments. I took it to the dealer for the 75,000 mile interval maintenance service and was told that my timing chain was leaking oil. They recommended that the timing chain cover should be resealed. I was quoted a price of $1,500!!! They said that the cost would be mostly for labor because the service entailed taking the engine apart. Needless to say, I want to get a second or third opinion first. Was I quoted a fair price? I know next to nothing about the inner workings of cars. Is this dealership trying to rip me off?

here is your problem.... the dealer that you are having do the work is charging you nearly 100 dollars per labor hour THATS INSANE!!!!, but that is the price you get from dealers if your car isnt under warrenty. my best advice to you would be to find a private mechanic who charges half that and buy the part from NAPA AUTO and cut your costs in half. it never hurts to call around as far as the timing chain i dont know shit about maximas i drive a 200sx good luck peace

...or find a nearby Nissan club and join...

In Dallas Nissan Enthusiasts we have members of all varieties...including great mechanics that love to work on Nissans.

But yeah...the main problem with $1500 is that you went to the dealer.
