failed emmisson test

im lookin at a 1997 maxima
but when i ran carfax
the carfax showed that this car failed the emission test twice.
on the same day and on the third tried the car pass this was all in the same day.
should i be concern or worried about this problem?

it might have had a check engine light, which will cause the car to run very rich which would cause it to fail emissions.

if you are truly worried, see if the person will let you take it to get it tested to see if it would pass.... try somewhere close. The cat works better the hotter it gets, so if you want a good reading of what the motor is doing, try somewhere close by.
