How do I advance the Timing ?

I read @ www.sentra.net, that the timing on the GA16DE can be advanced up to 15 degrees, as long as you use premium fuel. It was said to give a 5-8 horse power gain, and was one of the easiest mods you could do. I asked one of my friends about it and they said something about turning the distributor cap. So the question is, is this correct and how do I go about doing this ?

you turn the distributor... only after you have a timing gun and follow the procedure.

To prevent detonation. We advanced the timing and I was quite pleased to find that I could acctually notice a difference. I pulls much harder at the mid and top end.

"Yes" please search. "Yes" you need to run premium if you bump your timing. And "yes" you'll notice a lil pick up in acceleration from the mod.

::shakes head:: Sorry, got a lil "yes" happy there. For a minute I forgot this was the newbie forum. Welcome.

"Yes" a lil more pickup was about right, it was just enough so that I could feel the difference in my seat.

FWIR it's good for a couple ponies on the dyno (whp). You do get that seat of the pants feeling alright, I remember when mine was first advanced. Oh the days... congrats on the free mod.
