sticky clutch

my mom as a 5sp 96 maxima, about 117k on it. anyway the clutch travel is pretty sticky from the floor to about 3/4 of the way out, sticky enough where its difficult to drive and predict when it will catch ( sometimes it sticks then just pops out a quarter inch at a time)...im not sure if it is the release fork (that goes into the tranny) or the hydraulic part of the system that is sticking..any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

it is not the original clutch..replaced a while ago ( at least 10k)..and i dont think the stickiness was as bad before it was replaced

Do you know what kind of clutch is in it now? Also do you have any warranty on the previous work?

If it was done only 10k ago (which really isn't that long) then you should definitely check on the warranty. That is definitely not a normal thing for a new clutch.

Even if its an aftermarket clutch it wouldn't stick like that.

Did the problem just start or was it there just occasionally? I`m thinking they didn`t change the pressure plate or throw out bearing. From my experience, One or both will cause this problem.

If it's not..... then he needs to have his throw out bearing changed.... While he's at it, might as well just do a clutch job, it'll take a whole 10 minutes more.
