I have a 99 Maxima SE w/a little over 120K on the odo. Car has been maintained and driven daily. Last week in the middle of running errands, I got in my car and it would not start. It would crank, but that's about it. I had it towed back to the house and have been trying to troubleshoot it with no luck. Engine has fuel (checked up to fuel filter), spark (checked all plugs) and air along with compression. Talking to some Nissan techs, they think that the problem is related to the key and the security system. I was told that the security LED in the dash should blink when no key is in, then go off once key is turned to on. My LED is staying solid once the key is in the on position. I was told this is a sure sign of an issue with the key or security system, and that the Maxima's are known to have funky key issues such as mine.

Any suggestions or confirmations of the diagnosis? I'm planning to take it to the dealer to get scanned - but I'd like to consider any other possible reasons that this might be happening.
