Over the past couple of weeks I've notice a problem with my Maxima starting. It first started out as just a rough start. Now it's progressed to the point it takes a few cranks to get the engine to fire up. I'm planning on replacing the spark plugs. Anything else I should replace? Or any idea on what is causing the rough starts? The Maxima is a 1995, with 90,000 miles.

check the ecu for any codes that are being thrown...its hard to tell you what your problem is without actually being able to hear/see whats going on...how far from charlotte are you??

Ok thanks. I just found instructions on the VBXMaxima site for checking the ECU and a decoder. I'm about 6.5 hours away from Charlottte, so a bit too far for a visit.

damn yea haha i was gonna say i have a friend with a max we roll together alot but your too far to roll so oh well...visit maxima.org there should be a nc/sc/va meeting soon i believe

you may want to replace the fuel return valse, i have the same problem on my wife 95 maxima, her car having hard time start after the engine warm up, me friend a tech at nissan said the this fuel valse do not close when you shut down your engine, all the fuel will drain back to the fuel tank, the next time you try to start the car it will take a few crack for the fuel pump to get the fuel up to the engine

I took it to a mechanic and he tested it only to find out the the crankshaft sensors are bad, I replaced one ($) and am hoping to replace the other one soon. However, now it has gotten to the point that the car won't even start. It will crank. Sometimes it boggs down (interior lights dim) when cranking. I also get a metallic stripping sound when cranking. I'm thinking my starter has also gone. Plan on pulling it off to have it tested. Any other thoughts?
