Pain at the pump

Well gas prices in Hollywood have cheerfully reached $3.23 (that was as of 04/29, price has doubled since then probably ) and I am typically putting in about $40 at the pump. I'm just curious how much have you guys put in and also have a question about the size of my fuel tank. On MSN Cars it lists it at 18.25 however if I fill it up 14 gallons its already past the "F" mark. Can I go past it or is MSN Cars wrong (just like the amount of miles cars get per gallon).

Exclamation

My older 94 takes around 40 here in Oklahoma City were back down from 2.80ish a gallon around 2.60 now and I think our cars from the 89-94 has 17 maybe closer to 18 gallon tanks.

My parents both have Maxima's a 97 Se and a 99 Se and they are a little more than mine to fill up as they run the mid grade in there cars as it say's for better performance to use on there tank door, I think they are about the same size of tanks,

There car kick's my cars but in MPG also. My low fuel light comes on after my needle has dropped below the E and last fuel line (figured that out on the turnpike one day here) when it hits its last line mine tends to have around 3 gallons left once the fuel light kick on its like 1-2 gallons left at the most, I try to keep her at no less than a quarter all the time.

I fill my tank until it stops...not when the needle hits the 'F' mark. I usually put in about 18gallons when it's all said and done.

So you're saying its Ok if I go up to 17-18 gallons? I'm not a big car enthusiast, so excuse my ignorance, but how do I know when I cannot fill up any more?

maybe im not understanding these threads.... hold the pump till it stops.... when they say do not overfill they mean don't keep pullinin it after the auto stop shuts the pump off, the nozzle of the pump detects when it back flows and will shut off.... at least the pumps created within the last 20 yrs...ur car takes 14 gallons and goes past full, ur assuming ur tanks empty to beggin with.. most cars have a 1.2 all the way to 4 gallon gas light, as in that the light goes on when u reach ur final "2 gallons" or whatever ur car happens to be, u don't have to be a machanic to fill ur car, and u have to fill it to drive it... i see a electric/hybrid forum arising........................................... ...

oh and don't quote gas millage in dollars or days.... it has no direct relation as that noone knows how many miles the individual actualy drives.... check ur car, fill ur car up "till the pump SHUTS OFF" reset ur tripometer, drive as much as u want, when u go to fill up fill it up till the pump shuts off "like last time" now record the gallons it took and the miles u went, miles u drove divided by gallons u used, i.e 7gallons to fill up again and ur trip says u went 100 miles 100/7= 14.3mpg
