Help with Z24 Timing Chain

I did some head work on my '88 Z24 Hardbody and when I go to reassemble the timing chain sprocket on the cam, I can't get enough slack to place the sprocket on the cam. I used a tool to wedge the chain before dissasembly, but it is loose now after trying to fandangle the sprocket back on the cam. I would assume that I have to release some tension from the chain some how in order to install the sprocket on the cam at this point.

Does anyone have any advice? Is it possible to release tension from the cam chain tensioner some way? Or do I need to start disassembling the cam chain cover?

I doesn't look as if I'm the first person that has ever encountered this problem. Any advice would be much appricated. Not sure how to proceed.
