Pathfinders up to 1999 have the ecm under the front passenger seat. You access it from behind the seat, push the seat all the way forward. The flat head screw is on the left side of the ecm.

From 1996 on they switched to the OBD II system. So you can use a scan tool to access the codes. The connector is located at lower edge of instrument panel near steering column.
NOTE: 96 - 99 ecu's have different mode states:
1. (Mode I): with engine stopped, system in bulb check state. with engine running, system in malfunction warning state.
2. (Mode II): with engine stopped, system in self diagnostic results state. with engine running, system in front O2S monitor state.

Clearing Codes:
On pre-96 models, MIL stored memory will be erased after selecting Mode III or Mode IV or by disconnecting the battery.

On 96–99 models, MIL stored memory will be erased by switching from Mode II to Mode I.

On 96–04 models, to erase DTCs using a scan tool, select ERASE CODES.

You can find a cheap scanner on ebay or at a parts store. Be sure the one you get can erase codes. Or you can buy software that you run from your computer, laptop or PDA using a $25 connector. Autotap is the best and I believe they offer a free download.

Heres a link to all the OBD II software available
