I can do the same thing in my '93 with really old breaks. Pumping quickly and lightly will make the pedal very tough to press. If it's too difficult to press during normal driving (without pumping), though, it could be too much assist - hope that helps.

i know it used to do it, but its alot more than before to the point where its stiff until about a second then it loosens up
