Frame? An AMC Hornet, Spirit, Concord, Gremlin, Eagle, Javelin, AMX...well...you get the idea...is unibody. a six cyl Hornet only weighs like 2-300 lbs more than a S13. It's about the same size as a Fox Mustang and is heavier due to being made of thicker metal than newer cars that are made using high carbon steels. This is because the newer steels are more rigid than older, mild steel is, thus allowing it to be made thinner for a given strength. The biggest problem with newer steels though is that they are more brittle and have a shorter fatigue life than the old stuff did. This is why Fox Mustangs have a stress crack problem in the torque boxes and floorpans when used heavily without reinforcement.Either way, I still think it owuld be cool to see such an odd old car being used in drifting or drag racing with an unusual engine combination like that. Oh, and the earlier cars built before crash testing forced more reinforcement were much lighter. For example, a similar sized V8 1966 Rambler American with 290 V8 only weighed 2600 lbs! Alternatively, I have considered putting a more modern chassis under such a car, something like maybe an S13, to allow for a great handling/accelerating car with sheetmetal I like better than anything made recently.
