Didn't have codes or a check engine light. The old one even checked OK with the ECU test mode where you can count the number of lean/rich flips - but it definately made a difference. I've heard the same story from my parts guy who had a 1996 2.4L truck, and it's very common on the Infiniti J30 as well.
If you didn't use OEM spark plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor, I'd think about replacing them again... Nissans are very picky about aftermarket parts for some reason.
