I have a 97 SE with 111k miles on it. I recently had a drop in gas mileage(from 20 to 15), my mechanic replaced the plugs, fuel filter and did a fuel injector flush, that seemed to help a lot. He said that there was a lot of crap(carbon build up?) that came out with the flush. I hanven't had any check lights come on, but that might help with the fuel economy.
