BPL: The latest threat to our privacy
What is BPL you ask? It is short for "Broadband through Power Lines" and it will turn every electrical outlet into a 2 way internet transmitter. This is bad in many ways. First off consider the potential of every appliance you buy being able to transmit your useage to an outside source. This is possible with this technology, transmitting either to the government or outside corporations -without your consent or knowledge! People could also hack your devices to spy on you, potentially turning ordinary items into "bugs". Then there is also the threat to the shortwave "ham" radio bands, AM radio, some TV channels and emergency transmitters. They would be essentially rendered inoperative by the interference provided by this technology. When there is a major disaster, what is the communication system that is most likely used? Ham radio operators. FEMA , the FBI and some poor police and fire departments also rely on using these frequencies to communicate. They would be forced to buy equipment they may not be able to afford. This is all being pushed for by the FCC and a number of large corporations that stand to benefit from it.If you do not like this, write your congressman before it is too late!
