I followed a Miata through most of the back streets that I take, and pulled into a parking lot when I saw the water getting high on the Miata. I was physically less than 5 minutes driving distance from work, but waited another 3 hours for the rain to stop and the water level to lower before driving the rest of the way. My biggest problem was simply getting my entire car splashed by the trucks and SUVs who were whizzing by--but I did get a few good laughs in when I saw them flooded out on the side of some roads.

It can be a real pain, but like most of you guys said, losing 3 hours at work, or missing a hot meal at home...is nothing compared to the headaches of water damage to your car.
lol, it took me nearly 4 hours to get from 6-10 @ westhiemer to hwy6 @ westhiemer.... the stoplights were rediculous
