I am helping my son who recently bought an 83 ZX turbo. We are trying to remove the halfshafts to replace the boots and I am having a helluva time getting the shaft out of the differential. The FSM says to pry with a suitable steel bar. I got one side out but the other is a bear. Any tips? How hard can I pry? Thanks for any quick help you can provide. We are on a short fuse to get this one fixed.
They can get stubborn. Try turning the prop shaft slightly while holding the shaft and give it a hit near the diff with a rubber mallet to shock it a bit. I think you can give them a fair pry without breaking the housing, maybe even try giving the bar a hit to shock it but don't overdo it and damage the housing. Don't pull on the shafts as it can damage the joints. Best of luck.
