Phoenix, AZ mechanics
I have a friend with a 1977 280z that he just bought. When he got the car it would start right up but have problems idling after it warmed up, also if you if you punch the throttle it's extremely hesitant and sputters and pops and won't get above about 3000 rpm.
The person he bought it from told him it needed a new air flow sensor, so he went out and bought one and put it on. no difference. he also went through and replaced all the normal tune up parts and tried to tune/adjust things himself, including the adjustment screw on the new air flow meter that everyone on here says don't touch. Car still runs the same.
I sugested to him that instead of wasting the money throwing parts at it blindly to find someone who knows these cars inside and out (I'm a Honda guy myself) and pay him for an hour or so labor to make sure everything that's done is done right and diagnose and make sugestions for the repair. So that's what we're looking for now.
As it was an "expert mechanic" that told the previous owner the problem was the air flow meter, we want to make sure we don't get the same kind of expert this time. So does anyone have any sugestions for a reliable, honest mechanic in the Phoenix area that knows these older Z's?
