New ZX owner here

Hey there all,

Just picked up a 10th AE 280ZX, did not even know it was the AE (or even what the AE version was) until I had it home and did some snooping around the web.

It was originally black/gold but one of the previous owners painted it blue, I do plan to repaint it in the future back to original colors.

I have a couple questions and am hoping some of you might have some good advice.

1. The shifter is pretty loose, it shifts fine but there is TONS of play in the shifter, is there a short throw shifter made for the 280ZX's?

2. What are some of the comon upgrades that you guys have done to yours?

I am not going to restore it back to "original" condition I don't think as I think the stock rims are going to be really pricey and I just don't really like them (has some old school centerlines on there now). So I am not too concerned with keeping it all original. I want to use this as a reliable DD for 50-60 miles a day.

The engine and trans seem to be really strong and in good shape considering the age.

So anyway, howdy and let me know what you guys think.

Also anyone here from the SF Bay Area??

As for the stock shifter, you should be able to get replacement shifter bushings if you don't plan on getting a short shifter kit anytime soon. That should clear up the slop in your shifter/shifting.

Two other sites you should try are:
ZCAR.COM | Datsun - 240Z 260Z 280Z 280ZX 300ZX 350Z - Nissan
HybridZ
They are specifically Z car websites.
