Welcome to the poor house, and a car only makes it worse. I bought that $37 mid pipe from e-bay, it works great! I don't think you will notice a whole lot with just removing that resonator. The biggest power improvement you can do for cheap is a intake/header combo, they complement each other very well. I put the header on before the intake, and the improvement was noticeable but not that great. With the intake.... the thing works very well. I bought a pacesetter header to complement my poor house mid pipe
