split the case and found no metal shavings or worn gears. but a spring and checkball were laying in the bottom of the case. as to why it jumped out i don't know, but that's what caused the shift forks to shift wrong. as far as i can tell, it wasn't locked in 5th and reverse as i thought, but when i shifted out of 3rd, the fork didn't pull it out of gear and when i went into 5th the fork moved the shift collar and 1/2 engaged it.

called 1 dealer and they slapped me in the face when i asked for some copies of the service manual. they refused and their excuse was 'Those are our tools'.

called another one and they gladly photocopied me breakdowns of the cluster gear, input shaft, and shift forks assembly.

dealers dealers, all they want is your money.

i guess not of people at this forum have experience with transaxles? i'm not the 'pull and replace' for $1200 becuase of a $5 part. maybe everyone else is rich, i don't know.....

will look into it more on the weekend.
