While I've never owned a vehicle with ABS, I've been in them or driven them enough to know that the systems can be loud and certainly sound like grinding (or shuddering). I would imagine that the noise could be your ABS if it is only the right wheel that is on a slippery surface and the left has good traction. Of course, this should only happen while braking, not regular driving.

As for the screeching when turning left, I am assuming this is not a tire screech you are hearing? I know our BF Goodrich All-Terrain TA's will screech a little, even at slow speeds, given the right road surface conditions and temperature.

But if this is a screeching in the mechanical systems, I would say it's not normal. Being a 4x2, you do not have the front wheel drive parts to worry about, so finding the problem should be simplified - fewer moving/rotating parts. I would start with wheel bearings or brakes.

Hopefully someone else will add more.
