85 motor in 88 shell...help!
Alright guys, heres the deal. Just found an 88 Z with 106,000 M and what I thought to be a blown head gasket. Did a compression test and got low readings in the middle driver side cyllinder. Got the motor apart, gaskets look fine. The first passenger side piston got something inside that pitted the top of the piston, bottom of the head, and scratched the wall...even though that piston read great on the compression test. The deal also came with an 85 wrecked that has even less miles on it. Good back up plan...or so I thought. The 85 harmonic balancer was snapped off at the block and needs a new crank kit. The 88 shaft and oil pan are different, so I have recently found out. The heads aren't even interchangable. The alternator is in a different spot on the 85 motor and there is a black blower motor on the block where the 88 has its alternator. It has tubing that feeds up by the intake manifold for what looks like air ciruclation purposes. 87 and below guys know what I'm talking about. What is this for? If I re-cranked the 85 and dropped it in, would I have to swap ECU? Or could I re-flash the 88 ECU? What are my options here? Any help would be great. Thanx.
