I don't think it stuck. They just seem to run dry or should I say lubed but not enough. I have the same engine that you have. When I first got the truck the noise would happen frequently. I would add the STP and it would go away. I haven't head it in a couple of years maybe since changing to synthetic oil. The truck has 270,000 miles on it now, so I guess it worked.
