1 part bad starter/1 part cold start problems
OK, backstory...95 sentra gxe 1.6 manual. starter began going bad (car would randomly not start, had to push start often)and it seemed after some diagnostics with the good ol' voltmeter that the voltage at the starter solenoid ignition plug was inconsistent. I rewired the plug to pull additional voltage from the battery with the flip of a switch. Worked like a total charm for starting the car until some dumb broad pulled out in front of me and I had to panic stop, and accidentally hit the starter switch causing the starter to engage while the engine was at easily over 5k. Needless to say, that was the total end of the starter. I could smell it from inside the car. Also caused the car to cut off. Could not restart and when i flipped ignition to start, everything just cuts as though something was shorted and rapidly draining the battery. Towed 'er home and figured it was foodged. Car sat since maybe a week or two before thanksgiving.
Now: got a used starter that works well. Installed it. Cranks the engine, but it still won't fire up. Have to use my jump box for starting power. Battery drained. Pulled plugs. Definately getting fuel. (car had just had a fill up 2 hrs before the incident) Figured engine was flooded so I let er sit open for a day then put in new spark plugs. Still just cranks. Temps around here haven't gone over 30 in over a month and I read that these cars have very tempermental cold start problems. Tried foot to floor method, no start. Tried unplugging (what I believe to be) the coolant temp sensor as I heard that sometimes helps, still no start.
Now i'm lost on what to do and I just ordered a set of brand new kyb's...so PLEASE someone have some good tips!!!!
much appreciato!
