There are many signs you may need to replace your tires. Irregular wear, damage and weathering can all indicate a need for new tires. However the most common sign that it's time to replace your tires is low tread depth. Take a look at the video below to see how your car's wet braking performance depends on having sufficient tread depth. This is also a good reference for how to measure tread depth.
To see how your tires are measuring up, and to print out your own personal tread depth gauge, follow the link below to our on-line tread depth guide.
Problem is 6mm will always be better than 5mm just like everything else in life Tyres should have a standard 10mm would make life easier.Standard 3mm when finished. There is a lot of people do not know and just change.Formular 1 did not help with the silly rings on the tread more contact more grip summer.Wet and full wets snow friction and studded snow.
You can get a tyre that will never wear out last forever but it will feel like hell to drive and have no give or bounce modern cars need modern tyres but the more rubber touching the road the better even for mud and snow. You want nice thin grooves to through out the water, fuel savers just have less contact and wear out fast avoid the big rings around the tyres like the old F1's you are paying for air not rubber if you want to save fuel just fit smaller tyres say 205 instead of 235's.
If your drive is long then rain and wet roads are certainly a great concern for you. In such condition you must replace your tires when they reach 4/32" of the tread depth.
