Fuel lines

Ive recently had some very inconsistent starting issues with my 98 Chilkoot (r50).
When it does start, it runs fine, seems to have decent power, idles smooth, Ive driven 100 plus km and never an issue as long as I didnt turn it off.
Its been having these on off starting problems for a while, I recently replace plugs, wires cap and rotor.
The plugs were beyond done, not sure when they were changed last or if ever. (it now has over 310000 km on it)
at this point I am thinking its a fuel issue, I have never been able to hear the pump , I do however hear the relay click.
I am going to be getting a fuel pressure gauge tonight and do some testing, I hear it should be about 35psi while running?
I am also going to replace the fuel filter, not sure when or if that was ever done either, given the state of the plugs I am guessing its going to be bad as well.
With checking the fuel pressure, I have to lines that fun to the top of the engine, are they both send lines or is one a return?
I have gotten a knock sensor code come up once, however the check engine light has never illuminated, and I have heard other issues can trip a knock sensor code.
Check the fuel system is kinda the last thing I can think of before taking to a shop, not sure what else to look at.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
